DIMENSION NOTES
Basics
- should be for the convenience of the person reading the drawing
- no calculations should be necessary
- no duplications
- drawn to scale but workers should never ahve to scale drawing
Extension Lines
- when dimensioning numbers and arrows inside are 1st choice
- 2nd choice is number inside arrows outside
- 3rd choice is both outside
- should be attached to center lines and 1/16 in. from object lines
Leaders
- leaders used to dimension circles, arcs, notes, and other details
- criss-cross as little as possible
- arrow to edge, dot to surgace
- 1/4 in. tail
- any angle except horizontal or vertical
- do not pass through corners
- make it as short as possible
- needs to point directly to the center
Linear Dimensions
- first three big dimensions
- biggest height, width, length
- dimension inbetween views when possible
- dimension off view where detail is the best described
- DO NOT DIMENSION FROM A HIDDEN LINE
- locate things from a common corner
- smallest dimension closest to object
- NO DUPLICATIONS
- arcs are dimensioned as a radius, circles as a diameter
- cylinder in right side view, hole where it is showed as circle
- check mark indicates finished surfaces
